Three ways to move a device on

Carrier or retailer trade-in

You hand the device over as part of a new purchase. Payment is often store credit or promotional bill credits applied over many months, which usually require staying on a qualifying plan.

Direct buyback service

You send the device to a company that buys it outright. The quote you see up front is an estimate; the final offer follows the company’s own inspection.

Marketplace selling

You sell directly to another person. It can pay more, but you handle listing, shipping, fees, payment risk and disputes yourself.

Cash, store credit and promotional bill credits are not interchangeable. We cannot promise a value, eligibility, acceptance or payment timing—an estimate can change once the provider inspects the device and applies its own offer terms.

Prepare the device before you send it

  1. 1Back up your device and confirm the backup is complete before you change anything.
  2. 2Transfer or sign out of your accounts and move authentication apps, passkeys and two-factor codes to the replacement device.
  3. 3Remove the ownership or activation lock so the next owner can set the device up.
  4. 4Erase the device only after you have confirmed the replacement works and your data is on it.
  5. 5Handle the SIM or eSIM according to your provider’s official instructions—removing or transferring one incorrectly can interrupt service.
  6. 6Check remaining device payments and any effect on promotional credits, insurance or protection plans before selling or trading in.

Follow your device maker’s and provider’s official instructions for each step. Never share account passwords, verification codes or personal identification with a buyer.

Selling a laptop or computer? Confirm the exact model and specifications, and gather the original charger and any included accessories. Follow the manufacturer’s official backup and reset instructions, and check which device types the outside service accepts before you request a quote.

What we do and do not do

Deals on Phones does not buy, inspect, receive, value or pay for devices, and does not collect quote requests or device details. Any sale or trade-in happens entirely between you and the company you choose, under their terms.
